HOPE
What does it mean to hope for something? It means that you desire it. Hope makes a wonderful invitation but is not enough to achieve what you desire.
I hope that I do well on my exam.
–is hope enough?
I hope that we get to the movie on time.
–is hope enough?
I hope that you can join me for dinner tonight.
–appropriate expression of a desire.
What does it mean to have hope? It means that you believe that what it is you desire could occur. It is possible.
There is still hope that your dog will be found unharmed.
–true and appropriately optimistic statement.
Don’t lose hope, we may still be able to go to France this year.
–the object of your mutual desire is still possible.
I know there is hope, so I will not give up!
–shows determination and confidence in achieving the object of your desire.
POSSIBILITY
Is believing something is possible the most empowering belief you can have?
- When it applies to a specific outcome that you have control over–”possible” is not strong enough.
- When it applies to an outcome in which you do not have control over key factors, then “possible” can open the door to intention or hope.
It is possible that I will do well on my exam.
–generally weak–you have control!
It is possible that we will get to the movie on time.
–appropriate if you are running late.
It is possible that you can join me for dinner tonight.
–hope is better–it allows the other person the courtesy of choosing:)
It is possible that your dog will be found unharmed.
–providing reasonable hope where you do not control key factors.
It is possible we may still be able to go to France this year.
–keeping an option alive instead of drawing a negative conclusion.
I know it is possible, so I will not give up!
–staying in action!
FAITH
When is it empowering to have faith that what you hope for will occur? When your faith is based on a reason to believe. Faith alone where you have control over the outcome is not enough. Action gives faith grounding. Faith is based on the reasonable expectation of a positive prediction.
I have faith that I will do well on my exam.
–because I studied really hard!
I have faith that we will get to the movie on time.
–because we left in plenty of time.
I have faith that you can join me for dinner tonight.
–sounds presumptuous! Hope expresses this desire politely.
I have faith that your dog will be found unharmed.
–because this happened before and she always comes back.
Don’t lose faith, we may still be able to go to France this year.
–my boss said I could probably have the time off and we can afford it.
I have faith, so I will not give up!
–I have good reason to believe that my actions will pay off!
INTENTION
When you intend for something to happen are you doing your part to make it happen or are you asking the universe to do your bidding out of shear hope?
I intend to do well on my exam.
--so I will study for 3 hours tonight.
I intend for us to get to the movie on time.
–so I will leave work in 5 minutes and pick you up by 6pm.
I intend for you to join me for dinner tonight.
–would you like to join me? I will pick you up.
I intend to find your dog unharmed.
–I will post signs throughout the neighborhood and search on foot.
I intend for us to go to France this year.
–I will ask my boss for time off and I will work extra hours to afford it.
I intend to succeed, so I will not give up!
–I will do what it takes to meet the objective.
I hope that you will accept my invitation to consider the concepts presented in this article. You could achieve the object of your desire if you are willing to acknowledge that it is possible. I have faith in your desire to take powerful action to get what you want in life because here you are reading this article! I intend to continue to support you by regularly presenting you with thought provoking and feeling evoking content chez moi website.

Hi Sonya! Great post reminding us how we often throw words around without really thinking about what they mean. “Hope” is definitely one of those words! It isn’t always enough to hope, is it? But believing good things are possible is a great start.
Thanks Teresa! Indeed hope alone is not enough but staying open to the possibilities and being willing to take action is what keeps us evolving. You are a great example of that!
