The Master Cleanse: Take Two

By Sonya Sidky

November 6, 2009

This is my second Master Cleanse. I did a 10-day cleanse in September and really got a lot out of the experience. I decided to repeat the experience sooner than recommended—i.e doing it every six months or every three months so that I could make improvements while the first cleanse was fresh in my mind. I feel like I can really enhance my experience based on what I learned from the first cleanse. I also want to reset my recent eating habits and lose weight.

The main factors I would like to approach differently this time is when and how to end the cleanse as well as what habits I want to adhere to in my every day life. First, I want to stay open to the possibility of staying on the cleanse more than 10 days if it makes sense to do so. On day 10 of my first cleanse, I felt I was on the brink of some great breakthroughs, both in detoxifying my body and in losing weight. Instinctively I knew that I should extend the cleanse a little bit longer. I did not because I just want to get back to my life and eat some real food! This time around, I would like to ease into eating again more smoothly. What I did the first time was fine—I had whole orange juice and maple syrup and then started really eating a lot on the third day of transition, but the pace was such that I was too eager to eat. Thus I did not get into as good of an eating pattern as I could have. This is my opportunity to end the cleanse more smoothly and establish better eating habits that will last.

As of this writing, it is the evening of day 2. Day 1 was a big detox day and I spent much of the day rather spaced out. This is good! That means my body is getting right down to the business of cleaning itself out! I discussed my experience with day one in my Day 13 summary of my I am the boss of me 30 day trial. By contrast, today, I was mentally focused and productive. As with the first cleanse, I simply do not have the stamina I do when I eat a raw food diet. Walking is no problem, but when climbing stairs that ordinarily are not problem for me, I get slightly winded and I feel it in my muscles.

I will be adding more information about this cleanse as well as posting a summary by day.
